2018 in the Nigerian music industry was a very captivating year, here are our Top Nigerian EP’s that made waves in no particular order.

1. Codename- Dremo

Release date: 20, July 2018

Aboriomoh Femi Raymond, a rapper better known as Dremo straight off the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) leaked his highly anticipated debut “Codename” EP a day before the scheduled release date on Boomplay, a music streaming app.

“Codename”, which is a purely hip-hop 9-track EP consist of hit tracks- Bigger meat, KPA and Hey ma which featured Simi and his label mates; Davido, Peruzzi, Mayorkun and Sinzu. Fresh VDM, BenjaminZill Beats, Speroch Beats and Lush beats handled the production while the sound engineering was done by TeeY mix and Simi.

2. Heartwork- Peruzzi

Release date: 21, December 2018
Peruzzi, who was one of 2018’s biggest revelation and DMW’s “vibe machine” released his debut EP “Heartwork” on the 21st of December, 2018.

Heartwork, which is Peruzzi’s first full studio project since he announced himself into the industry is an 11 track project which has a variety of genres and contains a number of collaborations including Burna Boy, Davido, Mayorkun, Popcaan, Sugarbana, Dj Ecool, Broda Shaggi, and Barry Jhay. Peruzzi showed his undeniable talent and why he was one of the most featured artists in 2018. He also proved with this EP that he is not here to play and he’s gunning for the top acts.

3. Serenade- Funbi

Release date: 04, November 2018
Nigerian emerging Afro-funk artist Funbi comes through with his much awaited EP following the massive success from his song Turn Me Around featuring Ladipoe.

Serenade, which is a mixture of funk, afrobeat, folk and alternative music pays sensuous tribute to the women he loves with Funbi weaving in and out of love in every song. It is a 7-tracks EP that features Seyi Shay and Ghanian songstress Efya with the much-admired song- Serenade.

4. Palmwine Music Vol 2- Show Dem Camp

Release date- October 15, 2018
The double act of Ghost and Tec, collectively known as Show Dem Camp might not have a hoard of mainstream hits but they are one of the MVP’s of Nigerian rap music with the release of Palm wine music Vol 2 about a year after the Vol 1.

The second episode of the Palmwine music series which consists of 10 tracks is nothing short of what their cult fan base have come to expect- high quality music with sweet vibes.

The project consists of a number of perpetual collaborators including Ajebutter22, BOJ, Nonso Amadi and Poe. Also, featured are Burna Boy, Flash, Tomi Agape, Moelogo, Worlasi, Falana and Lady Donli. SDC had a great year with their music and also with the massive success of the Palm Wine Festival.

5. Talk About Poe (TAP) – POE

Release date: 5, October 2018
Mavin Records act, Ladipoe released a long awaited body of work that announced him as one of the industry’s most gifted and essential rappers in the country.

The meticulously trimmed Ep consisting of 10 tracks touches everything that makes the rapper tick from his insecurities about the trajectory of his career to his frustration with the monotony of the music scene.

TAP which is his debut EP featured Efya, Funbi, Ghost, Seyi Shay, Sir Dauda and Temz. He navigated several genres with utmost finesse including dancehall, new highlife (Palm-wine), hip-hop and trap.
