If there’s one artist that will always go the extra thousand mile and think outside of the box when making a music video that artiste would be Lil Nas X.
Lil Nas X just released a new single Montero (Call me by your name) and the music video self-directed video with Tanu Muino has been a hot topic all over the internet from the moment of release. Lil Nas X shows he has no limits when it comes to how he wants his art and persona to be portrayed “In life, we hide the parts of ourselves we don’t want the world to see,” Lil Nas X says in the voiceover to the video’s intro. “We lock them away. We tell them, ‘No.’ We banish them. But here, we don’t.”
In the video he doesn’t hold anything back as he confidently shows his LGBTQ identity as usual but this time with a bit of a twist as he took us on a journey down a thousand feet down a stopper pole from “heaven” to “hell” and put on quite a show as he shows us how good of a male stripper he would be if he’d ever consider that profession, the Devil character in the video would definitely have had a better time as it was a personal show for him on his throne.
Assessing from a creative and artistic point of view we would give Lil Nas X a 9.5/10 as he took us on a journey through his mind and how much he loves being bold and different. In a tweet shared by him on twitter after he sparked both support and outrage across social media after the release of the video- he said “y’all love saying we going to hell but get upset when i actually go there lmao”.
He was sending a message in a satirical way to Anti-LGBTQ community on self-righteousness, violence and prejudice against people in the LGBTQ community all over the world.
Was he pushing an agenda? Absolutely yes, and he did admit it in a tweet earlier in the day!
We can’t wait to see what’s next from Lil Nas, but for now, let’s continue to enjoy the epic movie he has blessed us with.
