5 WAYS TO OVERCOME PROCRASTINATION

We’re sure everyone will admit to being a little bit of a procrastinator, we just make up reasons why it’d be best to do it at another certain time rather than now. Procrastination has never done any good to work ethics or just everyday life, instead, it promotes laziness, more procrastination and you might never get the job done.

Pushing back on things that are meant to be done immediately is not a good quality as a person, as everyone should be able to deliver and get things done at the appropriate time. There can only be negative consequences when people procrastinate, it can lead to losing a job, making poor judgment, blowing off opportunities and not meeting set goals.

These reasons are enough for someone to develop the “Do it now” attitude and never look back. We’re going to be listing out ways on how you can overcome procrastination and become very effective at your workplace and life in general.

1. Say bye to excuses

One of the major reasons for procrastinating is making up excuses for yourself why doing it now isn’t a good time. Learning how to stop giving excuses and starting right away might be difficult for some people especially when they’re very used to procrastinating everything.

The faster it is for you to learn how to give up on excuses and start the job or task early, the better you’ll become at not procrastinating in the future.

2. Stay away from distractions

Binge watching your favorite shows or listening to your favorite podcast or radio show when you have pending work, won’t help get the task done quicker. Instead, it piles up and becomes overwhelming for you to start, then you end up pushing back your start time, which won’t make the job any easier.

So, listen to your podcasts or watch your favorite show when you get some free time. You can also use these things as a form of reward for completing your tasks at the end of the day.

3. Make a to-do list

Creating a list of things to do for the day might just be the hack to procrastinating. You might want to start this list with easy tasks like brushing your teeth, taking your bath, doing the dishes, folding laundry and trimming the lawn. Having these basic tasks at the top of your list, helps you get into the groove, and just the pleasure of ticking off already done tasks off your list, will help you want to do more.

4. Start Now

Whenever you have a task and you tell yourself, “I’ll do it in this next 30mins” get up immediately and start the work because telling yourself this only means you’re going to keep procrastinating until it’s hard to come back from it and your work pile is touching the ceiling.

Starting now, is the best way to overcome procrastination and getting the job done.

5. Reward yourself

After getting through the day with all of your tasks completed, it is nice to do something for yourself as a reward for not procrastinating. You can go to your favorite restaurant or watch your favorite shows. Knowing there’s a reward at the end of your daily tasks, will motivate you to not procrastinate and also help you get the job done faster.
