Apple’s latest iOS: The top 5 iOS 15 new features

After multiple beta versions, months of testing and tweaking, ios 15 has been made available for download. There are a lot of reasons why you should download it. Here are some of the biggest changes and favourite features.
Whether you are getting an iphone 13 or 11 or even something older, your iphone can run the latest version of Apple’s software, the ios 15. On the whole, Ios 15 feels like a continuation of the ios 14 which also felt like a continuation of the ios 13. If these operating systems were movies, this would be a series.

As with the last two updates in ios, the changes in the ios 15 aren’t necessarily forced upon you. You have the ability to enable and disable most things. If you don’t like having the tab bar at the bottom of the screen for safari, you can go into settings, turn it off, and it’s back at the top.

1. Ios 15 doesn’t alter the way your phone looks or at least in a big way. ios 15 isn’t defined by one or two giant features, instead it is made up of hundreds of small and medium editions and updates, some are significant like being able to send your friends on android phones or windows Pcs a weblink so they can join a facetime call.
Other features are small but welcomed the ability to pin conversations to the top of messages or customize your emoji with more clothing styles or sticker poses.

2. The redesigned stock apps: Apple’s weather app has got a fresh new coat of paint as it has been redesigned. There’s a big full screen of animations, if it’s sunny, you can see that, if it’s rainy, the animation for rain has also been included. The iphone’s new clock app looks mostly the same, but one subtle thing is it lets you type the time for your alarm instead of having to deal with the sliders all the time.

Apple maps in particular have been the butt of jokes for years, but they have been relentlessly improving it, been trying to catch up with google maps and adding features that are pretty unique and interesting. This new version has much more detail and a lot more 3d models of various landmarks and buildings

3. Facetime: They have added a bunch of tweaks and improvements and new features. There’s spatial audio in facetime now so in group facetimes, people’s voices come from the direction they are oriented on the screen. There’s a new grid view screen, portrait mode added so you can blur your background and different microphone modes so you can choose between standard, isolating voices or wide spectrum micrphone modes depending if you have a lot of background noise.

The two biggest new facetime features are share play and facetime events. Share play is basically when you are facetiming someone and you want to watch something at the same time as the person you are facetiming. You can listen to apple music together or watch tv shows or movies on Apple tv with synched playback controls. Facetime calls can also be events which mean you can add them to your calendar and also share a link to them, which might sound like apps like Zoom which means people on Windows desktops and Android phones can click the link and join a facetime call.

4. Livetext: Basically now, any image you have with texts in it from your camera or gallery, you can long press the texts in the image, it will recognize it and let you do anything you can normally do with any other text. You can select, copy, paste it somewhere or you could simply translate it.

5. Notifications: Although it still has a long way to go, Android’s notifications have forever been better that ios’s notifications. But they have made some improvements- new designs with bigger app icons and a new feature called notification summary which essentially means if you don’t use your phone for a while, it will round up all your low priority notifications and put them in one place

There’s a whole lot more featured than 5 that Apple introduced, in fact there was a whole 3 hour keynote, so of course there’s a ot of small stuff that didn’t make the cut for us. Things like improved spotlight with more Siri suggestions, improved offline speech-to-text recognition and various tweaks and improvements. But generally the new Ios is feeling and looking a lot better.
