Johnny Depp wins defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard

With the jury’s final judgment, Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard has come to a close, and the actor has been proclaimed the trial’s winner.

Amber Heard will be required to pay Depp a total of $15 million ($10 million in damages and $5 million in punitive penalties), however the final sum will be just $10.35 million, and Depp will also be required to pay his ex-wife $2 million.

Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard in 2018 after she penned an op-ed for The Washington Post describing herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”

Depp alleges that the report cost him lucrative acting gigs, despite the fact that he was not identified in the piece.

Heard countersued for $100 million, claiming that Depp’s lawyer exaggerated her assault allegations. Heard and Depp began dating in 2009 and married in 2015.

The defamation trial has been ongoing since April, with jurors hearing over a hundred hours of testimony in all. They’ve heard from scores of witnesses, including Depp and Heard in person.
