NEW AFRICAN MUSIC ACTS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN 2022

The likes of Omah Lay, Zinolesky, Oxlade and Tems all stormed the African music industry 2 years ago where they dropped chart topping music. These people were unique with their sound  and trust they didn’t fail to deliver when the opportunity presented itself.

Despite the things happening in the country, we Nigerians somehow know how to make the best out of all situations. We have proven to always stand out especially when it involves entertainment.

On today’s list we’re bringing your attention to the new artists that are making waves across the country. There are a lot of promising talents being discovered on a daily basis, but we have narrowed them  down to these few.

 RUGER

Michael Adebayo, known by his stage name RUGER is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He hails from Lagos, Nigeria. He is known for his distinct sound, unique fashion and his signature eye patch look. Like other aspiring artists, he uploaded his music on social media just to pursue his music career before getting discovered by D’prince. He was later signed to “Jonzing World Record” with publishing and distribution deals with Columbia records.

His song “Bounce” was a major hit from his debut EP “Pandemic”. It topped many charts including the Apple music Nigerian chart and from there he went on to dropping hit singles.

FAVE

God’s Favour Chidozie popularly known as FAVE is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. She hails from  the eastern part of Nigeria, born on March 13th, 1999. Fave is a 21 year old astonishing artist with a vibrant voice. She started singing at a very young age, as she grew up listening to Ciara and Tiwa Savage and also drew inspiration from these women. She came into the limelight with her popular hit songs “Baby Riddim” and “Beautifully” which debuted at the top of the Nigerian music chart.

She started pursuing her music career by uploading her freestyles and music covers on Twitter and Instagram, where her freestyles later got major attention and earned her fame. 

VICTONY

Anthony Victor popularly known as Victony is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter. He was born and raised in the Southwestern part of Nigeria. 

Victony happens to be one of Nigeria’s multi talented rising stars. He started his career at an early stage with rapping but later swapped rapping for singing and songwriting. Victony was discovered and signed to a Nigerian based label, Jungle Records where he released his debut EP “Saturn”. His major hit “Holy Father” was released that same year.

AMAARAE

Ama Serwab Genfi is a fine talented woman with the stage name Amaaree. She is a Ghanian singer, songwriter, producer and engineer.

She has a history of working with artists from Nigeria. She has worked with the likes of Tiwa Savage, Tems, Yinka Bernie and many others. She’s also big on recognizing and representing race and equality in her music. Due to her very outstanding sound, Amaarae was named Apple Music Africa’s favourite new artist of the year and later went on to become Apple music beats No. 1 featured artist that same year.

Her style of music and expressive fashion sense gave her a reputable name in a way that she was recognized and featured by Vogue in one of their magazine issues.

BLACK SHERIFF

Mohammed Ismail Sheriff popularly known as Black Sheriff from Konongo, Ghana, is a musician and performer signed to Black Tribe Record label. This 20 year old rising artist is versatile with his music as he revolves between rap, drill music and hip pop. 

Black Sherif got more recognition after the remix of his song “Second Sermon” which featured Nigerian Grammy award winner Burna boy. The music video reached a whopping 2 million views in 2 weeks. His high vocal range, good lyrics and versatile style of music has made him an interesting act to look out for in 2022.
