Not too long ago, premiere entertainment company, Mavin Records, received a multi-million dollar investment from Kupanda Holdings, and has unveiled right after, new artiste signed under Jonzing World, Rema.
His real name is Divine Ikubor, born 18 years ago in Benin city where he spent most of his life. He started rapping as an hobby at a very tender age due to his love for hip hop music, and easily picked a fusion of trap, reggae mixed with afro sound, as well as alternative sounds. Rema started a band while still in high school, and was discovered by D’prince of Mavin Records the junior brother of Don Jazzy, head huncho of the record label. The former quickly signed him to Jonzing Records, his personal imprint affiliated to Mavin.
In his words “When I first heard Rema’s music, I knew this was an artist I wanted the entire world listening to; his talent and artistry are so far beyond his years.” This was right after seeing him on instagram doing justice to his Gucci Gang single.
Mavin Global President said, ‘Rema is a formidable young artiste: with his skill and versatility, he has a unique place in the future of Afrobeats. At the same time, we’re excited to launch our first imprint deal with Jonzing world. This model will expand the number of ways the Mavin platform can support artistes and entrepreneurship in Africa to grow together, at home and internationally.
Rema has released his eponymous EP, Rema, which has just 4 tracks:
His sounds have been compared to international superstar, Wizkid, but we think Rema has a uniqueness to his style of music, and is on a completely different path.
