With the 2022 VMAs set to air live on the 28th of August 2022, the panel has finally revealed the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. American rapper, singer and songwriter Nicki Minaj, will be receiving the Video Vanguard award, and making her first VMA performance comeback since 2018 on the 28th of August 2022 at the Prudential Centre.
“Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry,” said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming and events, Paramount+. “She has shifted the music industry and cemented her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style and continuing to be unapologetically ‘Nicki’.”
Nicki Minaj will now join the likes of Madonna, Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kanye West, Pink, Missy Elliot and others as a recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
This announcement also arrived with the first round of performance line up for the 2022 VMAs. Panic! At the Disco, MarshMallow, Anitta, and Jbalvin are the first round of announced performers gracing the VMA stage. More artists will be revealed in coming weeks.
