Song Picks of the Day: New Music

We’ve definitely been given nothing but great vibes and a plethora of varying afro-sounds through the year, we’ve had a lot of hit songs and a lot of breakout artistes this year and the daily dose of new music we get might just have become overwhelming, with live shows back in action and Afropop hits such as Wizkid’s “Essence” and CKay’s “Love Nwantiti” climbing the charts both home and abroad, there has never been a more exciting time than the now for creation and competition in the burgeoning sonic landscape.

We’re doing the work to stay on pulse with all the music coming out from across the continent and beyond, bringing you exciting songs. We’ve put together a playlist of our top song picks from latest music releases from Nigerian acts, picking out some of the best with our own subjective bias.

Zinoleesky – Gone Far

Already having a hit song this year in “Naira Marley” Zino is just one of those artistes that can’t stop rendering us great melodic excellence.

Armed with reflective lyrics that shows how self aware and grateful he is on his journey towards stardom on his favourite amapiano groove “Gone Far” is a catchy track truly a testament to the well-deserved recognition the street pop artist is receiving at the moment and speaks on a larger scale to the fervour of the emerging sound and scene.

Veeiye – Forbidden Fruit ft. Ladipoe

Vee Iye,  contestant on season 5 of Big Brother Naija: Lockdown Edition, has just released her debut EP “young and reckless” , unlocking her newfound fame and showing off her sweet voice and great writing ability to fans and naysayers alike.

“Forbidden Fruit” is our favourite track off the project, the track is just what you’d expect from the duo as one’s adlibs support the other, Vee hypnotizing us with her soft and high pitched vocal range with sultry lyrics that embodies the project altogether and Ladipoe never disappointing with his rap verses.

WhoisAkin – Let me Love You

After the successful release and general fan acceptance of his debut project “Full Moon Weekends”, WhoisAkin is back with a new single and this one’s titled “Let me Love you”.

It’s a romantic new track that finds him expressing his intimate desires, Interpolating cool, intricate Afropop beats with mesmerising future-R&B vocals and melodies, the Ileri-produced number sees the Lagos native adding his own groove on contemporary romance as he professes his love for a special lady.

Hitboy Kellz- Ebere ft. Buju

Buju has more than proved himself time and time again this year and it’s almost like anyone could get themselves a number 1 hit single in Nigeria right now just by having him in their song.

Hitboy Kellz definitely took the cue while the flames are burning hot and brought on Buju on his new track “Ebere” a promotional single off Hitboy’s upcoming debut album. Hitboy Kellz sings about the difficulties he faced in life as he’s joined by Buju on the chorus who longs for a lover.

Fiokee – Follow You ft. Chike & Gyakie

Music fans are always riled up with excitement whenever talented acts coke together to make a song together and Fiokee did a great one bringing a mix of Ghanian and Nigerian RnB in Gyakie and Chike respectively.

The track is graced with Chike’s melodious vocals serenading with Gyakie’s distinct and rich voice. In a similar style to Chike’s earlier releases, this love track sings about one going above and beyond for their love interest.
