Super Eagles of Nigeria Keep World Cup Charge Strong as they Redeemed Themselves

A debut international goal for Leon Balogun and a great strike from Victor Osimhen were the major highlights at Douala’s Japoma Stadium on Sunday. This served as a revenge-seeking Super Eagles side defeated the Central Africa Republic 2-0 to avenge last Thursday’s loss to the Wild Beasts in Lagos and revive their quest for a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place in Qatar.

Gernot Rohr made three changes from the starting-XI that suffered that shock 1-0 defeat to the Wild Beasts of CAR in Lagos. Removing the trio of Francis Uzoho, Chidera Ejuke, and Ola Aina, and bringing in regular number one goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, Chidozie Awaziem, and Ahmed Musa, who officially made his 100th appearance for Nigeria after having two of his earlier caps annulled by FIFA.

Rohr said this when he spoke with NFF TV after the match in Douala “It was a good reaction of my team, Rohr said on the Super Eagles media channel. We lost the other day, very unlucky in the last minute, so everybody wanted to take a revenge”.

Rohr also commended the team captain Ahmed Musa, who made his 100th cap for the Super Eagles, for his leadership while noting that CAR were a difficult team to beat because of their style of play.

He said, “We played only three in the back, and I think this helped us also, and with the leadership of Musa to win this game.” The win took the Super Eagles’ points tally to nine as they remain top of Group C.
