Burna Boy’s recent form and consistency in the afrobeats music industry over the last 4 years has set the bar really high and setup himself as a role model and a top artiste in the Nigerian music industry, his achievements and hard-work has seen his music widely accepted all across the world and has himself become a household name both home and abroad.
He also joined the exclusive list of Nigerian artistes who have gotten nominated for an academy award at the Grammys for an original projects with names like King Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti, Sean Kuti & Babatunde Olatunji on that list, worthy to note that quite a number of have a role model in Fela Anikulapo Kuti- many might argue in favour of him being one of the pioneers of the modern day Afrobeats.
So far Burna Boy has been nominated twice for an academy award for his last 2 albums “African Giant” and “Twice as Tall”, even though he might have been a favourite he sadly conceded his first nomination to Angelique Kidjo during the 62nd Grammys ceremony back in 2020 which became a driving force to even come back better with his recently released “Twice as Tall” album which also got a nomination again- talk about consistency and raw talent, we’re all behind the “African Giant” himself to come back home with that award this time
In preparations for the next ceremony to be held in March 2020, Burna Boy has been confirmed to perform at this year’s premiere ceremony of the 63rd Grammy awards ceremony, this is a very big platform for him and from then on it would be “the world to Afrobeats” and not the other way around.
Getting a grammy award is a milestone achievement and recognition a lot of artistes yearn for and we really do hope Burna Boy has a great time on the stage performing in front of the whole world and maybe also bring that Grammy award home and become the first Nigerian to do so for an original project.
