What a year it was for music in the Nigerian Industry. We saw the emergence of two top fast rising stars , the flexibility and adaptability of a legend in the industry, the return of a wonder man from Port Harcourt, the consistency of the big boys and of course the shaku shaku and later, Zanku waves that hit our ears time and time again . Let’s dig in! Here are our top Nigerian songs 2018:

10. SO MI SO (Wande Coal)

A spiritual jam: Wande warmed up to our hearts yet again with this one. It has been one of the regular songs on the playlist of radio stations and in the theme of things, Wande keeps this light and teases us with soft lyrics. Wande Coal is like that kid that we will always love no matter the result they deliver but he had a quite stable 2018 releasing and featuring in other jams “Oh No No” and “Way” with Falz. There is another one with Wizkid coming soon but the only way is up for Wande. Get in touch with your spiritual side for this one. Enjoy.

9. ASKAMAYA (Teni)

One of the darlings of the 2018 Nigerian Music Industry and already has been getting reviews and a lot of support for The Next Rated Award given at the end of the year: Ladies and gentlemen Teni.

Sister to already hit star Niniola, Teni rocked the airwaves with this song as she brings her own unique tune and vibes as we could see with other fire jams like Fake Jersey, Shake Am and most recently, Case. Askamaya was produced by Spellz and it uncovers Teni in her amazing voice and element as she delivers with unique adroitness that shows how much she has matured over the years. Teni already won rookie of the year and like she said in the song, Omoge Loke loke loke, you go girl, we know that’s where you headed. Number 9. Enjoy!

This was a brilliant thought-out song considering this was a World cup year and it was a massive hit. Released late in 2017, Naira Marley definitely had sights of capturing our 2018 and thank goodness our super eagles did score some goals if not….. Naira Marley first burst onto the scene in 2014 with the song “Marry Juana” but he definitely got us feeling high in 2018 with this one. Olamide and Lil Kesh were smart choices on the features and was definitely an anthem for all Nigerians. Also the song also went well the dance of the year “shaku shaku “(what doesn’t?). Number 8 on our list, Get your shaku shaku on cause everything Issa Goal.

If the 2018 Nigerian Music Industry was to be a movie, “THE RETURN OF DUNCAN MIGHTY” would fit perfectly for the title. Duncan Mighty took a very long sabbatical after serving us jams like Portharcourt Boy and Obianuju but he’s right back again and with jams like this one including AZA, Lova Lova, and Bio Bio. He’s welcome to stay for a very long time. Wizkid had a classy appearance on this one and just gave all of us a friendly reminder on those who are only present when we have and we need to run away from such people. Our Number 7. ENJOY

“If we no get money, Wetin we really gain” – Victor AD probably with the question of the year gets into our top 10 with one of the biggest songs this year. The Warri-bred talented singer turns his prayers into a song and Nigerians all around have adopted but however let’s try to gain everything we want the right way. With this one, we know Victor is going to be here for a long time and we eagerly anticipate his next projects.

It’s been a while we saw a celebrity/musician declare his love profusely on a song and I think this is what warmed the hearts of Nigerians on this one. We are all expecting the wedding IV for those two Davido and Chioma as Davido made some very strong promises on this one “If I ever leave oh , make water carry me dey go far away “ Well Davido is still here so their love is going strong . OBO built massively on a very strong 2017 and has done more on features and some other bangers he released in 2017 which could have easily also enter any other top 10’s including Nwa Baby, One Ticket , AZA . Davido showed flexibility here as we have already seen Davido, the bad boy but now it’s Davido the lover boy. Ladies please secure your assurance while you enjoy this one on our number 5.

Without even hearing the song, I know you are already dancing zanku to this. Another Prayerful song dropped by Chinko who has always combined well with Lil Kesh in the past adds the latest dance rave crooner Zlatan on this one and it was a masterpiece. Kindly show me a better song you can dance zanku too, I’ll wait. Able God is no doubt the hottest song on the streets right now as you can always hear choruses of “NO MORE INSUFFICIENT FUNDS “everywhere. Also at the time of release, almost all the big artistes gave their mark of approval tweeting about the song and definitely there will be no looking back from Chinko. Lil Kesh was amazing as usual. Get showered with blessings while you listen. ENJOY

The only set of people that might not like this one are those bearing the name Amaka and they would not like the fact that they have been exposed but in truth 2face was not only relating this to that particular name, All girls have the ability to disappoint with so many different excuses, I have to babysit, My cousin just came back from the states, yen yen yen. Anyways this was a beautiful song which featured alongside another favourite for Next Rated Peruzzi. Peruzzi has held his own this year and his verse was so wavy on this one. He just has vibes written all over him and I don’t think he has a bad verse in all his multiple features. The only criticism of date is that he should sing alone but does that really let you know if someone can sing or not? Either ways, Peruzzi is flaming and with Davido, there are no limits to where he can reach. On the other hand, we have run out of superlatives for 2Baba, Over the years we have seen him adjust and adapt to the requests of the new trends and vibes and he keeps giving us bangers. We appreciate 2Baba for this; Amaka it’s enough, please drop disappointments in 2018 and stop making Kings Cry. Some of em really have called Larry Gaga setting up in their yard just for you. BE THE BANG BANG.

Please what’s the meaning of Soco? Nobody really knows and in honesty who cares because you cannot just sit down when you hear this one from Star boy and his crew. The song literally sends any dance floor on fire. Wizkid had a quite stable 2018 and definitely a contender for video of the year for the stew he brought to our TV. Involved in some baby mama drama but that didn’t stop him from delivering consistently. We got to hear from Terri, Ceeza Milli and Spotless properly for the first time and each verse matched the intensity that the song brought. The Star Boys might not yet have the presence that the DMW group has but there is hope moving forward. So if God has blessed you with the body, all you need next is for Star boy to bless you with money so just find him… SOCO SOCO.

Our NUMBER 1 for the top Nigerian songs 2018 definitely, DEFINITELY has to go the man of the year for 2018. Burna Boy has never been the man to care about receiving accolades but there’s no way he is escaping the spotlight for 2018. All singles he dropped have the potential to be in this top 10 but this is the one that appealed to every sector of the Nigerian Music Industry and is the poster song of his massively rated album “Outside” . Drawing inspiration from one of the Nigerian Legends /gods Fela’s “Sorrow, Tears and blood” is now an everyday Nigerian anthem. You know when Nigerians begin to demand that a song should be the next National anthem, we already have a universal JAM in our hands. Ye is for that Nigerian that doesn’t want to die, it‘s for the youths who still want to turn up, It’s for the ambitious who have a plan to get a car, a house, It’s a beautiful in its entirety. Delivered with a lazy vibe but still constitute a whole lot of powerful energy. It is a very addictive song and I ask you , what is your Ye? Enjoy our number 1. OLUWABURNAAA
