Men wearing skirts have been in existence since the 1800s. This has always been the case in Rome, Greece and other European countries. It’s also the traditional attire for Scottish men. But Skirts are famously known to be a piece from the women’s closet. As time went on, and the evolution around the world especially in fashion, men came to find this piece of women’s clothing very stylish. Therefore, many have worn this look on the red carpet, award shows and other events. It was considered a Punk or Gothic look at the time.
After a while, the rate at which men wearing skirts at public events heavily declined and the reason behind this is quite unknown. For years no man was seen attending a public event in a skirt and due to this break, men in skirts have been perceived as an anomaly.
Now, a new dawn has befallen us where people’s choice of fashion are being accepted and criticized less. Slowly, the revival of men in skirts is being adopted by many people and fashion brands despite the gender stereotype attached to them. In recent times, we’ve seen fashion brands put out a menswear skirt collection which back in the day, was unacceptable. Which further proves that people are starting to open up their minds to the zero limitations in fashion.
We’ve seen celebrities like Billy Porter, Jaden Smith, Pete Davidson, Kid Cudi and Our very own influencers like Daevess, Demi Oyenekan and others, rock this chic look effortlessly at several outings. And we hope in due time more men, adopt this style, because it’s with no doubt that skirts are coming back in fashion for men and we are here for it!!!
