THE Y2K FASHION COMEBACK

If you’re wondering what Y2K fashion means, it simply means the style of the “Year 2000” which includes the late 90’s, early and mid 2000s. This era would be referred to as when fashion was taking the world by storm, it was all cool boy/girl style with a touch of a futuristic approach and retro hint. Today, it seems the Y2K fashion is making a massive comeback through the Gen Z in a very major way.

The elements of this fashion includes the flared pants, shiny fabrics, baguette bags, baggy pants, chunky sneakers, double denim and of course, the colorful sunglasses and monochromatic tracksuits which were the massive fashion statements of the late 90s. The Y2k fashion era was heavily influenced by hip hop, technology and leisure wear, and today, we see this distinctive style influencing the younger generation, as we can see hints of this fashion in their style.

In recent times, right before our eyes, we’ve seen an abundance of these aesthetics making their way through runways and topping trends in today’s fashion. We see this style at every turn or every post on social media because it’s very easy to recreate, you don’t need an entire wardrobe transformation or throw out your old clothes to make this statement in your style.

You can look up Y2K style videos or search on Pinterest, where you can basically get anything you want including style videos, and just recreate what you see on there. Even if you don’t have the exact piece used in the video, you can make due with what you have, probably revamp some clothes and all, to get what you really want. The Y2K style is just about having fun with clothes, and getting that cool boy/girl style.

We believe to see more comebacks of past era fashion in coming years, as trends are often recycled in fashion with a little upgrade and fun twist.
