Men’s guide to building a wardrobe

One of the problems men face when getting dressed and ready is figuring out what to wear and how to pair things together. Let’s paint a scenario that you are probably familiar with, you have a bunch of clothes in your wardrobe, but you just stand in front of it not knowing what to wear, you end up feeling like you have no clothes. What a number of men do not know is that it’s just a matter of quality and not just quantity.

For people who want to start the process of dressing better, it can even be more daunting, as there are tons of questions that will arise- where do I start?, what should I buy? what colours should I stock up on? etc. That’s why we are here to guide you through that process. Here are our tips on building your wardrobe.

SHOES
Nowadays, everyone will notice your shoes. Regardless of what shoes you have on, people will notice and what shoes you mostly wear says a lot about you, if you are mostly wearing athletic shoes, you are probably an athletic guy. If you wear leather, formal shoes, it shows you are trying to look professional.
Every guy needs four types of shoes to include in their wardrobe
• Brown or black leather shoes for a more formal, professional look
• White sneakers as an everyday, casual type of shoe
• Athletic sneakers for working out and getting that street wear, athleisure look.
• A pair of boots to mix things up a bit.
The main caveat is that you shouldn’t start with unconventional shoes like red boots, green sneakers as those are generally harder to style. With the shoes mentioned above, you should be able to combine a lot of outfits without going overboard financially or mixing your outfits wrong.

TROUSERS
Jeans are very versatile pair of trousers you can ever get. Black jeans especially can be worn multiple times without people even noticing as they are plain black jeans with no rips, unnecessary designs. If your jeans have a distinct marking, it will be noticed especially when worn multiple times which can have a negative effect. But if they are plain black, they will blend in with the rest of your outfit. So basically, start your wardrobe with dark wash denim, black jeans, blue jeans would do the trick. The most important aspect of your trousers is the fit, make sure you get the right size, nothing too big, too baggy, you should be able to see your shoes.

T-SHIRTS
Guys generally tend to have way too many t-shirts. Make sure to reduce the number of t-shirts you have and go for the nice, neutral solid colours like white, grey, black, navy blue. Those are the recommended ones to get started with, as you have an endless amount of outfit combinations with a white or black t-shirt, same goes for every other solid neutral coloured t-shirt. Once you have those, you can then start experimenting with tees with graphics, logos, different colours. But as a beginner, it is best to stick to the basics.

ACCESSORIES
Accessories are a perfect way to express your personality as it is also going to separate you from another person wearing the same outfit. So many men do not give accessories a second thought, you wouldn’t see a lot of guys rocking necklaces, bracelets, rings etc. The whole point of buying accessories is you don’t buy it all at once, start with the basics and then gradually move on to the more advanced items like rings, glasses etc.
