4 Rules To Style Sneakers The Right Way

It is sneaker season and honestly, we don’t think sneakers have reached this level of popularity in a long time and we want you to enjoy the benefits and wear sneakers the right way. There are certain rules that if you apply them, you’re going to look good in your sneakers no matter what and while these rules aren’t all, there are exceptions to these rules. If you’re just starting out, whatever sneaker you have and you don’t know how to wear it properly, this is the article for you.

1. Pull a color from your sneaker

This is if you have a hard shoe to match. This happens all the time. A lot of sneakers come with a lot of different colors and they’re vibrant and it can become hard to match without ending up looking like a clown or clashing color. So let’s say you have a bolt sneaker, the easiest thing to do is to keep your entire outfit neutral and then pick one color from your sneaker and draw that out. So let’s say there’s green on the sneaker, you can pull that green and make your top green and make everything else neutral. Use this trick and your shoes will always look good.

2.Match the weight of your pants to your shoes

A lot of shoes have visual weight to them; think chunky sneakers. Chunky sneakers visually just look heavy. They look dumb with skinny jeans. Like when you match chunky shoes with skinny jeans, you just look disproportionate and it looks uncomfortable. But if you match those chunky shoes with a loose cut pair of pants that looks a little hefty or a little weightier, the match is more symbiotic and now it looks more aesthetic and vice versa.

Say you have a pair of minimal sneakers, and visual weight looks kind of light, when you match it with something heavy like wide set trousers, it just looks like it clashes too much and it looks disproportionate. But if you match those sneakers with pants that are more tailored, removed from the excess fabric or that excess weight and more streamlined, now there’s a more symbiotic relationship. Because you match that visual weight, it looks more aesthetic. By the way, this rule applies to everything from jeans, chinos and trousers.

3. Always keep your shoes clean

When you buy nice shoes, you want to take care of your stuff. Not only is it going to last you longer, but it’s going to make you look better. Yes there are some shoes that as you dirty them up, they add more character; like your vans and your converse. But for the most part, most shoes you want to keep as clean as possible because it keeps your outfits looking clean. So take the time out of the day that maybe once a week or after you see them get scuffed, clean them up. You can buy shoe cleaning kits and this is the best investment you can do to increase the longevity of your sneaker

4. Match your sneakers to the occasion

If you have a serious occasion, you want to match more muted colored sneakers. If you have a casual occasion, maybe you’re just hanging out with friends, you’re going for errands, go for the bright stuff. Say you have a formal occasion, you choose neutral or muted colored shoes. So when you have something formal, the more minimal and structured something is, the more appropriate it is for the location. When you have something casual and informal, the more unstructured or chunky it is, the more appropriate to the occasion. That’s because again you’re laid back and you have nothing to prove you have no standards to meet. Going chunky here is best.
