Adele “Easy on me” review: A new masterpiece on relatable heartbreak

Adele released a new single ‘easy on me’ a couple of days back. The single has shattered several records while taking the world by storm. However, the new single shattered Spotify and Amazon music records. Spotify announced that the British singer’s new single set a new record for the most streams in a single day. In the last 10 years or 11 years, Adele released two records; 21 and 25. They were both diamond selling records. What that means is that they both sold over 10 million copies.

There’s a reason why Adele has diamond selling records. However, that’s because she appeals to all kinds of people. The song contains no auto-tune as it’s a real person with a phenomenal sounding voice, incredible tone, great phrasing and singing. Adele wrote the song herself and it tells the story of her divorce. Greg Kersten produced the single, who happens to play the bass, guitar, piano and drum machine. Recorded by Steve Churchart who’s one of the greatest recording engineers ever. It was mixed by Tom Elmhurst who mixed all three of her records. Which is why, right off the bat it just sounds so incredible.

The reason why it smashed all these records is because it’s a great song with a great vocal performance with soul. That’s why it doesn’t need anything else as it’s got a beautiful accompaniment. Very tasteful bass playing all the right notes. The programming of the kick drum included is really the perfect sound that blends with the bass and gets out of the way. It’s just so fresh sounding because it’s so empty without the use of autotune or excessive use of musical instruments.

The song sounds so grim but provides a sense of reassurance for millions of her fans who look up to her for relatable heartbreak. The mournful piano in the song becomes more strident as the song progresses which serves as a reminder of her tear jerking tunes. It is evident that no artist can wrap heartbreak and sorrow in such a beautiful, relatable package. Easy on me is not too different from her other works sonically. However, with the steady tempo, soaring vocals, and the piano melody, this makes it all so melancholic.

Adele in an interview revealed that her new album is a way of explaining her divorce to 9 year old son. She realized that she could be the problem, the constant theme in all her past relationships that never worked out. Although it is a hard pill to sallow; that you are the problem, it is even harder to share that fact with the world. This was best demonstrated in the song lyrics “Go easy on me, baby / I was still a child / Didn’t get the chance to / Feel the world around me / I had no time to choose what I chose to do / So go easy on me.” The bridge, “I had good intentions / And the highest hopes / But I know right now / It probably doesn’t even show.”

Seeing as “easy on me” has really blown all our minds, it is not far fetched to say that the new upcoming album will be nothing short of a masterpiece.
