9 Artistes to Watch Out for in 2021

2021 definitely has the potential to be a worthy sequel to 2020 based on the quality and quantity of music we got this year from all of our favorites. We’ve compiled a list of artistes that got into the lime light in the course of 2020 and have only given us a snippet compared to their potential talents and we’ll be looking forward to more of them in 2021.

These artists are all in different places in their career—some are still gearing up for a debut album, some are reaching a tipping point and on their way to mainstream success, the common biase is that all of these artists are on track to level up in 2021, talking about commercial domination, airplays and lots of milestones to be reached.

  1. BELLA SHMURDA

Like we said earlier the artistes highlighted in this article are in various stages of their career and Bella is one of the newest acts whose fanbase keeps multiplying by the day both for fans and among fellow musicians as well, his debut EP “Vision 2020” really did a lot of numbers based on streams and airplay and among the most streamed Nigerian projects on Audiomack for 2020, safe to say he didn’t pick the title of that EP by accent he definitely spoke it into existence.

2020 was a very good year for the industry rookie as he got feature on Olamide’s album Carpe Diem and also A better time album with Davido, he also had two hit singles “Dangbana Orisa” and “Cashapp” during the year, we’ve seen what a potential he has and we’re looking forward to the follow-up in 2021

  1. OXLADE

With Oxlade it’s the vocals for me, how he is able to hit high notes seamlessly and eloquently with his very impeccable song writing skill put him on the path of an artiste like Wande Coal, he greatly impressed us through the year and exceeded expectations with his debut project “Oxygene” where we got his smash hit “Away”. However, Oxlade made sure to not let the dust settle so quickly as he has since then blessed his increasing fanbase with singles like “DKT” and “Dutty love” since then.

He has announced that we haven’t seen the half of it and he’s bringing some more smoke in the coming year and expanding his brand.

  1. VICTONY

Still just 18 but Victony has proven to be made for the stars as he has given us just a glimpse of his versatility and all round music talent. We got a first glimpse of VIctony on his single “Sing my song (SMS)” with its trippy nuance and this got a lot of people wanting to hear more from the singer. He did not keep his newly acquired fanbase waiting too long before he dropped his debut EP “Saturn”.

Victony is walking on the path to stardom with his Gen-Z appealing style of music, the coming year has a lot to unfold to us but we sure would be expecting to see more of Victony and his inevitable stamp in the music industry.

  1. LAYCON

The story of Laycon is a story that has made many believe in grace, who knew that shy looking guy that went into the Big Brother house whom everyone felt was looking out of place would not just go on to win the show but also build up a huge fanbase and loyalists.

The rapper admitted to going into the house for the sole purpose of promoting his music only to come out with the prize money and millions of streams and followers on his social media. Who is Laycon was the title of his Ep pre-released before the show and Laycon’s ability to play with words and rhymes with intelligent allusions has tipped him to be the next best in the Hip-Hop category of the music industry with the likes of Olamide, MI, Vector, Reminisce et al.

Laycon definitely isn’t done with us and 2021 is where we would be expecting more music from him.

  1. CKAY

Ckay has on track and has had his stardom coming for a long time now actively re-inventing himself and his style of music. In 2019 we saw his success with his project “Ckay the first (EP)” and got singles like “Love Nwantintin”, “Way” amongst the very good songs on that extended playlist.

Late this year he announced signing with Warner Bros Music record label and signing with an international label of that magnitude must have been a very proud and happy moment for him and by now we can be sure he definitely has a project he’s working on open his discography at his new record label, watch this space for Ckay in 2021.

  1. BLAQBONEZ

Where do we start from for Blaqbonez?—Should we start from his superb rapping ability or his ability to also sing as well or the honest and persistent effort he puts into self-promoting his music.

Blaqbonez is such a vibe both through his music and his social media image, he had two hit singles in 2020 “HABA” & “BBC”, these weren’t just hit single they are smashing hit singles and he has promised fans a project dropping sometime in the first quarter of 2021 and we’re impatiently waiting for that to drop.

  1. ALPHA P

Another distinctive artiste in the Gen-Z category and former band-mate with Rema, Alpha P is among the new school artiste bringing in a new music genre to us, his style of music cannot be misplaced for another.

In 2020, he had a hit single “Quarantine” followed up by an EP filled with songs with great replay potential, he has often been mistaken for international cloud rapper/trap artistes like Don Toliver and Rod Wave but his fusion with afrobeats is what makes him standout as an artiste.

Let’s see what Alpha P has cooking for us in the coming year.

  1. LIYA

Signing for a record label like 30BG/DMW can only be an omen for greater things to come and that’s what we are predicting for the DMW first lady and only female artiste.

Her first single “Melo” dropped under the record label was well received by all and sundry people want to know more and hear more from her in the course of 2021 hoping for collaborations with the likes of Mayorkun, Peruzi and even Davido himself.

  1. MINZ

Many would argue Minz is new to the music industry but only a few know how far back he has been around making his alternative vibely new school music and setting his style and mode of singing in the school of Afrobeats.

Minz has had a couple of features and singles during the year “Quarantino” “Julie” “BDMN”, bares mentioning how many times we’ve hit up his songs on various radio stations in the country and how fast his music is getting accepted by the general populace. We hope to get more from him in 2021 and even a project won’t be too much to ask.
