BEYONCE MAKES HISTORY AGAIN AS RENAISSANCE DOMINATES THE BILLBOARD CHARTS

Beyonce gifted the world with a new album on the 29th of July 2022, and now, the album is sitting pretty at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 charts. The last time Queen Bey made an appearance at the No.1 spot on the Billboard 200 charts, was in 2016 with “Lemonade” but now the Queen is reclaiming the No. 1 spot again. 

Though Beyonce made appearances on the Billboard 200 charts between 2017-2021 with several music projects like “Everything is Love”, featuring husband, Jay Z, “Homecoming :The Live Album” and also “The Gift: The Lion King Soundtrack”  which all reached the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 charts. 

The new album “Renaissance” raked in the largest streaming numbers in a week by a female artist this year, breaking this record with 179 million streams during its release week.

The album also paid homage to several black women making history like; Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, Betty Davis, Solange Knowles, Badu, Lizzo, Kelly Rowland, Lauryn Hill, Roberta Flack, Toni Braxtion, Janet Jackson, Tierra Whack, Missy Elliot, Diana Ross, Grace Jones, Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Grace Jones, Helen Folasade Adu, Jilly from Philly (a.k.a. Jill Scott), Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and the late Aaliyah.
