Lil Durk hit in the eye by a pyrotechnic at Lollapalooza

Lil Durk revealed he will be taking a break to recover after being hit in the face with a pyrotechnic while performing onstage at Lollapalooza on Saturday.

A firework accidently went off just beneath Durk’s feet as he was performing his verse from Pooh Shiesty’s song “Back in Blood,” forcing the rapper to stop and shield his face. He returned a short while later and told the DJ to play “Who Want Smoke” by Nardo Wick (on which Durk is featured).

But the next day, Durk posted a picture of the bandages that were covering his right eye as he lay in the hospital.

“Due to the incident that happened at Lollapalooza in Chicago on stage, I’ma take a break & focus on my health,” Durk wrote on Instagram. “I finished my performance yesterday for my fans. Appreciate y’all.”

The cause of the pyrotechnic explosion on stage is yet unknown. Later this month, Durk was scheduled to perform at Boston’s TD Garden, but he remained vague about the status of the performance. His 7220 Deluxe tour is scheduled to begin in September, with a stop at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles in October.

Durk is having a great year; most recently, he appeared on Cardi B’s “Hot S—” with Kanye West. His most recent album, “7220,” was published in March and debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. (his second straight album to do so).

A few days after canceling his own scheduled headliner performance, Lil Durk closed out the opening night of Rolling Loud Miami, weeks before taking the stage at Lollapalooza. He also invited West as a special guest.
