NETFLIX ADDS NEW CHARGES FOR PASSWORD SHARING

The streaming media company has announced adding an extra charge of $2.99 for people in Central and South America trying to share their Netflix accounts with other homes. The streaming company has also notified the public that these new charges will very soon apply to the whole world.

After the major decline in Netflix subscribers this year, losing over 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of the year, this comes as a way to raise more revenue and keep the company running. This new concept testing will begin with Argentina, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic, where you’ll be allowed to share your Netflix password on a device outside your home for two weeks without being charged, but immediately the two weeks expires you’ll be charged $2.99.

Product Innovation Director at Netflix Chengyi Long said  “We’ve always made it easy for people who live together to share their Netflix account, with features like separate profiles and multiple streams in our Standard and Premium plans. While these have been hugely popular, they have also created some confusion about when and how Netflix can be shared. As a result, accounts are being shared between households—impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films for our members.”
