NIGERIAN OSCARS COMMITTEE DISQUALIFIES “ANIKULAPO” A MOVIE BY KUNLE AFOLAYAN

The Nigerian Oscars panel has recently rejected the newly released movie by Kunle Afolayan in conjunction with Netflix titled, “Anikulapo” for the 2023 Oscars nominations. The movie which hit the airwaves on the 20th of September 2022, became an instant success due to its brilliance and well thought out storyline.

Kunle Afolayan has reached out on the popular social media platform, Instagram, to express his disappointment on the Oscars panel decision, he stated “I am so pleased and delighted that the whole world has decided to tag ANIKULAPO film “a masterpiece “even though the Nigeria Oscar selection committee think it’s not worth submitting for the Oscars. Will keep doing my own thing”.

The news has since provoked many Nigerians and movie fans, seeing the Oscars is regarded as the most prestigious and notable achievement in the movie industry on a global scale.

The Nigerian Oscars panel also revealed they received three Yoruba language movie submission: Anikulapo, The King’s Horsemen and King of Thieves, and Elesin Oba, for further Oscars nominations consideration, announced all three films were non eligible to enter the competition as many members of the board voted against the movies. 

Despite the worldwide accolades the movies received, the Nigerian Oscars committee doesn’t believe they deserve to be nominated for the award.
