STREET STYLE TRENDS TO LOOK OUT FOR AT THE 2022 LAGOS FASHION WEEK

It’s Fashion season in Lagos, and in true Lagosian fashion (no pun intended), looks will be served, fashion norms will be broken, and boundaries will be pushed! The annual Lagos Fashion Week brings out the country’s most fashionable stars, and individuals trying to get recognized in the fashion world, as well as those just out to have fun and show off their style.

This season is sure to deliver show-stopping wardrobe choices from the fashion community’s finest.

2022 has been a year of numerous style trends, and a year of reinventing 90’s fashion. Vintage styles from oversized outfits, to activewear, and loud colors, were reinvented in a much more cooler way from what they used to be. This year at Lagos Fashion week, we’ll be on the lookout for how fashion creatives and style stars will stun the audience with street style trends from this year.

Here are some of the Street Style trends to look out for and we’re sure they will dominate Lagos Fashion week.

1. Denim

Denim is definitely having a moment! The classic Denim on Denim is expected to make waves during any fashion week in the world. From Kanye West and Julia Fox rocking the Denim on Denim look during Paris fashion week, to other style stars following suit, the trend is bound to make a statement any day.

Apart from the classic denim on denim, we’ve also seen denim used in interesting ways. We’ve also seen other Nigerian celebrities make a statement with the Denim look, like Asake rocking the Balenciaga Distressed Denim Pants Top, and Burna Boy rocking a Blue Denim feathery pants, paired with a crop top on stage, this style trend never declines.

2. Mules

Mules, the closed toe and backless shoes have made a huge comeback in the last two years, and have become a chic shoe choice for any season. Mules are basically easy to rock footwear that can match up quite a number of outfit choices from traditional attires, to jeans.  We expect Mules to make a splash at the Lagos Fashion week.

3. Alien eyewear/Bug-eyed sunglasses

With Balenciaga being at the forefront of this trend, it’s safe to say the rest of the world has tapped into the trend as well. The eyewear brings a futuristic touch to fashion, and also makes a serious statement. Style stars have been spotted all over the world rocking the eyewear effortlessly, we expect to see individuals at Lagos Fashion Week making a statement with this trend.

4. Masks/Balaclavas

The mask fashion trend took the world by storm from late 2021 till date, and the trend doesn’t seem to be getting close to an end. Kim Kardashian set the tone for the trend at the 2021 Met Gala, and other fashion elites have taken cues from the fashion icon. At this year’s fashion week, we’ll be on the lookout for style stars willing to take a bold step with this trend.

5. Men In Skirts

It’s with no doubt that skirts are officially in for men’s Fashion, and we are here for it! Celebrities like Bella Shmurda, Chike, RMD, and fashion influencers like Emekaoflagos, Prince Nelson, and others, have been seen rocking skirts on several occasions, so it’s safe to say this is a style trend we’ll all be looking forward to seeing at Lagos Fashion Week.

6. Mesh Tops

The see through body con tops will be the perfect edgy piece to rock at Fashion week, if done right. The bold texture of this piece leaves zero room for the weak-hearted in fashion, as confidence is the key to rocking Mesh Tops in public. Denola Grey, TheAyoLawal, and others, have shown us how it’s done, so we’ll be on the look out for individuals bringing a different touch to this piece at Lagos Fashion Week.

7. Baggy Pants

The oversized pants in Denim, Leather, and Silk, dominated street style throughout 2022 with different style stars rocking the piece confidently. The Baggy pants has also become the perfect base for any outfit, as they pair well with just about any top from your wardrobe, as well as crocheted vests. Celebrities like Ye, and Asake have represented the baggy pants trend all through 2022, and we believe this trend will make it to the grounds of Lagos Fashion Week.

8. Ties

The ties everyone would typically wear to work or a formal gathering, have taken front and center of street style fashion. We saw ties make several appearances on international runways in 2021, but little did we know that this runway trend would bubble in the streets as quickly as it did. We’ve seen them being paired with oversized blazers, baggy pants, and even skirts, safe to say we’ll be expecting ties on some of the attendees at Lagos Fashion Week.
