“Omo Ghetto (The Saga)” becomes Highest Grossing Nollywood Movie of All Time

Funke Akindele-Bello and JJC Skillz’ directional debut film “Omo Ghetto (The Saga)” has been named highest grossing Nollywood movie of all time.

The movie was officially released on the 25th of December 2020, and is a sequel to Funke’s 2010 trilogy “Omo Ghetto”. This sequel tells the struggles of Lefty and her friends, Nikky, Busty, and Chummy Choko in Askmaya Ghetto.

Currently, the movie is on its fifth week run in cinemas, and without hustling, it has also occupied the number one spot at the box office. According to a statement released by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the movie has become the highest grossing Nollywood movie of all time after bringing in N468,036,300 in its first month.

This development has placed the “The Wedding Party” produced by Kemi Adetiba into the second position after holding down the first position in years with a sum of N453,000,000, while its sequel “The Wedding Party 2” comes third place with N433,197,377.

The film stars Funke Akindele-Bello, Chioma Akpotha, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Thomas, Akah Nnani, Alex Ekubo, Zubby Micheal, Deyemi Okanlawon, Timini Egbuson, Nancy Isime, Mercy Aigbe, among others.

Reacting to the news, Funke Akindele-Bello took to her Instagram page where she broke the announcement to her husband as they danced to live soundtrack from Puffy Tee, who also produced the ‘Askamaya Anthem’, the movies’ official soundtrack.
