Nine months after the Astroworld tragedy, Travis Scott gives his first solo headlining performance

On Saturday night, Travis Scott gave a performance at London’s O2 Arena. The rapper’s performance that night was his first headlining event since the disaster at his music festival Astroworld last year, which saw a surge of concert goers leave 10 people dead and numerous others injured.

While performing his standard repertoire of well-known hits, Scott also gave the English audience a sneak preview of some unheard songs by beginning with a rendition of “God’s Country.” An early tracklist for Kanye West’s 2021 album, “Donda,” included the glitchy tune.

Scott also sang “Lost Forever,” an unreleased song with James Blake and Westside Gunn, in addition to “God’s Country.” The song was briefly debuted by Scott at the May 2022 Billboard Music Awards.

The two tracks will probably be included on Scott’s upcoming, long-awaited fourth studio album, “Utopia,” which will be the follow-up to “Astroworld” from 2018 and the “Jackboys” compilation from the following year. According to current rumors, “Utopia” will reportedly feature 21 Savage, Swae Lee, and Bryson Tiller. Additionally, the 2020 song “Franchise,” featuring Young Thug and M.I.A, will probably be on it.

Speculation over whether the plot of “Utopia” would respect or make any reference to the lives lost during Astroworld has started among both fans and critics. Scott has maintained a low profile in the months since the tragedy, but he has been gradually reentering the public eye.

Travis Scott recently stated that he would be holding a “Road to Utopia” residency at the Zouk nightclub in Las Vegas, for a run of seven performances from September 17 to October 15. Additionally, it appears that some of Scott’s earlier canceled sponsorships have been reinstated, notably his “Cactus Jack” brand deal with Dior.
