Leicester City reject £70m Chelsea bid for Wesley Fofana

Wesley Fofana was apparently available this week, and Chelsea reportedly spent the weekend putting together a winning third offer to win over the Foxes. It would seem, though, that the third time is not quite the charm because Leicester City, just like they had done with the first two, rejected it very immediately after it had been filed.

Now, admittedly, the third bid was still somewhat less than Leicester’s reportedly £80 million or more asking price, but £70 million (inclusive of bonuses) is by no means chump dough and is at least absurd for a 21-year-old defender with only one complete season of professional experience (less than 100 appearances in total).

Fofana did not play in Leicester’s 2-1 loss at home over the weekend, and he isn’t likely to tonight against Stockport County in the League Cup’s second round. That was interpreted as an indication of an impending transfer agreement with Chelsea, though Jules Koundé was also released from Sevilla at this time last year and decided to stay and now sits unregistered in Barcelona.

If Fofana plays against Leicester City this weekend, he might not wear the blue of Chelsea.
